Bracing may be ineffective. Fusion is forever. The ApiFix® procedure offers select patients with adolescent idiopathic scoliosis (AIS) a less invasive, motion-preserving option for achieving curve correction – without the permanence of fusion.
The ApiFix procedure uses a posterior approach and involves only three anchor points on one side of the spine. This is less invasive than fusion, as well as other fusionless surgeries.
The less invasive ApiFix procedure reduces the impact on soft tissue and bony anatomy. Patients typically stay in the hospital for 1-2 days and return to school within two weeks.
The novel design, featuring polyaxial joints and a self-adjusting rod, allows a degree of motion that is not possible with the rigid implants used in fusion surgery.
More than 900 AIS patients have been treated with the ApiFix procedure since 2012.
